Botanical and biogeographical excursion Tenerife (Spring 2017) – Große Botanische Exkursion nach Tenerife (Spring 2017)

The Canary Islands are a great place to study how environment, geography and geology shape plant communities. This excursion will bring students to the island of Tenerife. We will visit all major plant communities and vegetation to get a broad and comprehensive understanding of the vegetation, climate, geology, biogeography, and land‐use practices. The two‐week long field trip to the island of Tenerife will teach advanced principles of plant adaptations, climate and vegetation zones, island biology, land‐use change, and conservation. Students will learn how to identify the local flora and sample vegetation in a subtropical climate. Seminar topics will put the Canary Island’s biota into a broader evolutionary and biogeographical context and discuss topics in more detail. Limited spaces available.

Compulsory planning meeting: Friday 28th October 2016 10 am FSR 1.4 (Seminar room in Büsgenweg 1, 1st floor)
